What is Tropical Salsa?

Tropical salsa is a fresh, fruit-based condiment made by tossing finely chopped fruits such as apple, mango, and kiwi with savory elements like cilantro. It’s finished with a squeeze of lime juice and served right out of a cantaloupe bowl. This makes it a fun statement salsa for your summer parties.

Ingredient Notes

Easy Tropical Salsa
  • Cantaloupe – Scoop the inside of the cantaloupe; use the flesh of it in the fruit salsa, while using the cantaloupe shell as the bowl and base of the fruit salsa.
  • Mango – Choose a mango that gives a little under pressure. Dice it small, so you get every little bit out of the mango.
  • Kiwi – Adds a beautiful pop of color and flavor to the fruit salsa; these can be kept with the skin on.
  • Apple – Adds texture to the fruit salsa; these can also be skin-on or off, totally up to you.
  • Cilantro – Adds a little garnish and gives a hint of savory flavor into the sweet variety; this is totally optional to use.
  • Lime – A squeeze of lime to finish it off and give a juicy, tart flavor to the salsa.

How to Make Tropical Fruit Salsa

  1. Begin by cutting the cantaloupe in 1/2 and scooping out the inside. This can be done with an ice cream scoop. Then, cut the scooped cantaloupe into smaller bite-sized pieces. Once the cantaloupe is cleaned out, set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, place the bite-sized cantaloupe, mango, kiwi, apple, and chopped cilantro. Mix this up well and then squeeze with the juice of 1/2 a lime.
  3. Serve this inside the cleaned-out cantaloupes with a side of tortilla chips and snack away!

Tips for Best Tropical Fruit Salsa

  • Keep the dicing uniform and bite-sized for easy eating!
  • Skip the cilantro if it isn’t your thing; we enjoy the savory flavor paired with the sweet flavors.
  • Be sure to scoop out most of the flesh of the cantaloupe, leaving about 1/2 inch to keep the cantaloupe sturdy.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Add pineapple for a more tart flavor.
  • Fold in chunks of avocado.
  • Toss in some mandarin oranges for more citrus.
  • Mix in berries for a tropical berry salsa.
