Tips for Making Smoked Queso:

It’s best to use Velveeta Cheese in this as that is what will melt the best.

The other great thing to add is cooked ground sausage. This can be done with Chorizo or Breakfast Sausage too, even doing a mix is a great option as well.

The sausage would need to be fully cooked before adding it to the pan of ingredients. This dip is made in an Aluminum pan, which is optimal for serving it right out of as well.

  • Use mild wood pellets so that you do not overpower the cheese.
  • Cube the cheese evenly so that it melts faster.
  • Stir as instruction to continue to get it melted.
  • Cook the meat in advance before adding to the pan.
  • Use an aluminum pan for easy storage and serving!

Best Pellets for Smoked Queso:

Do not overpower the cheese, it’s best to stick with one of these pellets.

  • Hickory
  • Oak
  • Pecan
  • Blend of Flavors

Avoid mesquite flavors, these are more bold and smoky.

How do you warm up Smoked Queso?

Smoked Queso can stay warm on the smoker or the grill for several hours. This means you can leave the pan on the pellet grill at the lowest setting.

Slow Cooker Option that is available, move the queso to a slow cooker and leave it on warm, giving it a nice stir occasionally.

It will need to be stirred occasionally. If needed, you can add additional heavy cream to get it to the consistency that you prefer. If you add additional cream, only add about a tablespoon or so at a time.

Variations of Smoked Queso:

  • Do a mixture of sausage.
  • Add in cooked bacon if preferred.
  • Stir in black beans or corn for additional texture.
  • Top with fresh cilantro.
  • Use hot sauce or spicy Rotel for extra heat.

How to Store Leftovers:

Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When ready to reheat, heat in a microwave-safe bowl or on the stovetop on low heat. Add about a tablespoon of milk or cream to restore creaminess.

Pellet Grill Smoked Queso is the most requested dip recipe for any game day party or family get together. This is perfect served with your favorite tortilla chips, plus it will feed the whole crowd!
