What do you need for Smoked Acorn Squash?

  • Acorn Squash
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Pure Maple Syrup
  • High Heat Baking Pan

Do you need a high-heat pan for this recipe?

I almost always use this 8×8 baking pan, it’s my favorite. If you have a deep cast iron pan, that can be used too.

The only reason a pan is used is if your acorn squash is not flat enough to stand on its own, this way the butter and maple syrup do not drip out onto your grill. If your squash is flat enough to stand on its own on the grill grates, then you would not need to use a pan.

Tips for Making Smoked Acorn Squash on the Pellet Grill:

The acorn squash will be cut in half and all seeds removed, then you will add unsalted butter to the center of each one along with brown sugar and maple syrup.

First, a sharp knife will be needed to slice the acorn squash in half, then use a fork or spoon to get all the seeds out, the inside of the squash needs to be fully cleaned out.

This will give it a nice mix of sweet and savory flavor. Nearing the end of the time on the grill, a brush can be used to brush some of the melted butter and brown sugar mixture on all sides of the squash if you prefer.

If you do not do this during the time that it is on the pellet grill, simply drizzle some of the mixture over the squash before serving.

Lastly, the squash will cook at 450 degrees F for 30-40 minutes, the goal is to get it to be fork-tender on the bottom and the sides.

How to serve Smoked Acorn Squash:

Smoked Acorn Squash can be served as a great side dish or a main dish, it’s totally up to you. We prefer to serve it alongside Smoked Baby Back Ribs. This way our entire dinner can all be made on the pellet grill.

How do you store leftovers?

Leftover acorn squash can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. It can be warmed in a microwave-safe plate in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 2-3 minutes.

Are you ready to bite into a delicious winter squash? This Smoked Acorn Squash on the Pellet Grill is delicious, the warm and cozy flavor will make this easy side dish a family favorite!
