It’s time for summer’s easiest and tastiest side dish, Grilled Corn on the Cob, and it’s easy to keep it right in the husk. That means no shucking, no boiling, no fuss, just toss the corn on the cob straight onto the grill.
This is by far one of my favorite side dishes during the summer months. It can be done on a traditional grill or pellet grill, too; it’s totally up to you. We love to pair these with Pellet Grill Baby Back Ribs, too. It’s foolproof and results in steamy, juicy corn!
What you’ll love about Grilled Corn on the Cob:
- Less Mess – No need to shuck the entire cob, meaning less mess!
- Naturally steams in the husk to lock in moisture.
- Easy to handle – Once grilled, the husk makes the corn easy to handle and pull off, then, if preferred.
- Naturally gluten-free!
- Easy and quick side dish recipe!

What is the silk and husk on the corn cob?
The corn husk is the outer layer of the corn cob, these are bright green and wrapped around the corn.
It’s best to get a bright green husk without holes, which is a sign of no insects, hopefully!
Now, the corn silk is the threads and fibers that grow on the corn; they are usually under the husk and at the ends of the corn cobs.
These will be trimmed up before grilling, but not entirely removed from under the corn cob.
Can you grill shucked corn?
Corn can be grilled with or without the husk; however, our preference is to leave it on and grill it. Once it’s done, we remove it, and if you want the chargrilled marks, you can place the corn back on the grill for a few additional minutes.
It’s best to remove some of the husks but not the entire thing so that it does not dry out while grilling. It’s good to leave a single layer of husk on and then remove the rest.
The husk is going to really lock in the moisture and allow the corn to steam within the husk, which makes for juicy corn on the cob.
The corn will come out perfectly tender, and easy to peel the shuck right off. If you want, you can also toss the ear of corn back on the grill grates to get char marks on the corn, too.
What seasoning should you use for grilled corn on the cob?
Seasonings are optional, but butter, olive oil, and salt are the best choices that will likely be right in your pantry.
It’s easy to brush the butter right onto the fresh corn on the cob, then add your favorite seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic salt, or garlic powder. Other seasonings like melted butter, garlic butter, or fresh herbs are great additions too.

Summer is the best time to find that fresh corn at the Farmer’s Market, then grill it up on medium heat and get a wonderful smoky flavor that pairs with a variety of smoked meats or grilled burgers!
