A batch of easy mulling spices is perfect to have on hand during the fall season!

These past few weeks I’ve been sharing some of the best spices to have on hand during the fall and winter season, this Mulling Spice is another to add to your list along with Apple Pie Spice and Pumpkin Pie Spice.

Today, we will be focusing on this Mulling Spice, which happens to be a great choice for fall used in a variety of drink recipes including Apple Cider.

Mulling Spices can be used for a variety of recipes including spiced ciders, alcohol, and other fall drink recipes. If the title of the drink is mulled, then it’s made using mulling spices.

  • Cardamom Pods
  • Allspice Berries
  • Whole Cloves
  • Star Anise Pods
  • Cup Dried Orange Peel
  • Cup Black Peppercorns

Each of these combined gives a wonderful spiced flavor to create these Mulling Spices, by creating a batch of them, you will have plenty on hand throughout the season.

How long can you keep Mulling Spices?

As long as you keep them in an air-tight storage container these can actually last for years at a time. The key here is when you open the lid, do they still have that great fresh cinnamon smell. If they do not have that scent anymore, then it’s time to make a new batch.

This Homemade Apple Cider is perfect to make using these spices, simply use the apples and sugar along with this batch of Mulling Spices and you will have a flavorful apple cider for fall.

    Place cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, allspice berries, cloves, and star anise in a large Ziploc bag.

    Crush all the spices with a rolling pin.

    Add the dried orange peel and peppercorns to the bag and toss to mix.

    Store in an airtight container.
