What type of apple should you use for Smoked Apples?
These are best made with a Honeycrisp or Fuji Apple. These give a great sweet and tart flavor which combines well with the smoky flavor of the pellet grill or smoker.
It’s best to use medium-large apples, you want to be sure that you will have enough space to core the apple and then add in the filling.
What pellets should you use for Smoked Apples?
We like to use a variety of pellets with mixed flavors, but you can also use your favorite pellet flavor too.
I really like this fall blend of pellets with these apples, it’s a mix of apple wood and hickory wood. It really adds to that apple flavor and makes these completely divine!
Tips for Making Smoked Apples:
Be sure to fully core the apples about 3/4 deep so that you can fit in the toppings.
They can be served with ice cream as well or whipped topping. We even like to drizzle caramel sauce on top too.
The apples will smoke at 275*F for about 90 minutes, they need to be checked around 60 minutes as the cooking time will depend on the size of the apples used.
The outside of the apples should be nice and soft but still, hold its shape to be considered done.
The apples need to be arranged either in a cast iron skillet or grill rings to stay upright. We typically use a cast iron skillet when we make them.
