Overnight oats are a no-cook method to prepare oatmeal. These can be prepared the night before, just before bed, and in the morning, a delicious creamy soft oatmeal will be waiting for you in the fridge! These oats can be served cold or warmed up, it’s up to you.
Overnight Oats are full of nutritious ingredients, customizable, and perfect for meal prep!
What ingredients do you need for Overnight Oats?
- Old Fashioned Oats or Gluten-Free Old Fashioned Oats
- Sweetener – Honey, Maple Syrup, Sugar, Splenda, or Stevia
- Unsweetened Oat Milk or Almond Milk
- Peanut Butter Protein Powder
- Ground Cinnamon
- Vanilla Extract
- Mason Jars
- Additional Toppings – Banana, Blueberry, Strawberry, Chia Seeds, Chocolate Chips, or Toppings of Choice!
If you would like to make these oats gluten-free, use certified gluten-free old-fashioned oats.
What type of jar should you use for overnight oats?
Use wide-mouth mason jars that have lids. These jars need to be at least 8 ounces. The ones that are in these pictures are 16-ounce jars. Any airtight container that you have on hand will work; however, mason jars work the best.
Tips for Making Overnight Oats:
- Customize – Overnight Oats are perfect to customize with different flavors and spices such as pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice, or toppings such as fruits and chocolate chips. Get creative and choose your favorite version of overnight oats!
- Consistency is Key – If you prefer a thinner version, add more liquid, or if yours seems too thick, add more liquid. If you prefer thick, add less liquid or more thickening ingredients such as chia seeds or protein powder.
- Make it Sweet – If you want it sweet, start with the sweetener in the recipe card below, then add additional sugar, honey, or sweetener to your preference.
How do you store overnight oats?
These need to be stored in an airtight container, a mason jar works the best. These can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. When ready to serve, serve straight out of the mason jar or heat before serving.
Overnight Oats are one of my favorite ways to start my morning, right up there with Baked Oatmeal. They are delicious and an optimal choice for a grab-and-go breakfast!

Using a mason jar that is at least 8 ounces or more, combine the oats, peanut butter powder, sweetener, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Mix this well to combine.

Seal the lid in place on the mason jar.
