What do you need for Smoked Cornbread?
- Unsalted Butter
- Granulated Sugar
- Eggs
- Yellow Cornmeal
- Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour or Regular All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Milk
- 10-inch Cast Iron Skillet or 12-inch Cast Iron Skillet
How do you make Gluten-Free Smoked Cornbread?
Cornbread is very easy to make gluten-free with a simple switch of flour. Use a Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour such as King Arthur, Better Batter, or Cup 4 Cup.
All remaining ingredients will be naturally gluten-free, but as always check all ingredients to be sure there is no cross contamination.
What pellets should you use?
The flavor of the pellets you use will directly enhance the flavor of the cornbread. We use a blend of pellets; however, apple pellets work well for a sweeter flavor, and hickory for a more smoky cornbread flavor.
Tips for Making Smoked Cornbread on Pellet Grill:
Once the wet ingredients and dry ingredients have been combined, the batter will be formed. This will be evenly poured into a 10-inch cast iron skillet or 12-inch cast iron skillet, either will work.
The cast iron skillet will be placed on a preheated pellet grill at 350 degrees F and cooked for 1 hour with the lid closed. After an hour, it can be carefully removed and cooled for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Smoked cornbread will have a nice crispy crust with a warm, soft texture.
When you are already making a variety of pellet grill recipes, the smoker is the perfect option for cornbread too!
