Do you need to brown the ground beef before adding to the slow cooker?

The ground beef is BEST browned before adding to the slow cooker. This will allow it to have extra flavor once browned and added to the slow cooker.

Although it is recommended to brown first, it’s not required. It can be added directly to the slow cooker, but if you have time I’d recommend browning first.

The seasoning can be added to the beef once it’s in the slow cooker.

Tips for Making Gluten-Free Slow Cooker Taco Meat:

If using homemade taco seasoning, use 2 Tbsp per 1 Pound of Ground Beef. For this recipe, we used 2 Tbsp with 1 Pound of Ground Beef. Once the ground beef is browned, add the taco seasoning, black beans, salsa, and water to the slow cooker and stir it to combine.

Once combined, cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or HIGH for 3 Hours.

If you want your taco meat spicy, add in red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. For even more spice use spicy salsa.

We prefer ours mild so all of our ingredients are mild ingredients.

It’s best to use a Handheld Meat Chopper or Meat Grinder to finely chop the meat up before adding it to your taco shells.

Serve the taco meat over tacos, burritos, nachos, or a taco salad.

How do you store leftover taco meat?

Leftover taco meat can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freezer Meal Storage Instructions:

It can also be stored in a freezer-safe storage bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to heat, thaw the meat and reheat in a skillet on medium-high heat. It’s best to add in a bit of water or broth to revive the moisture in the ground beef.
