Do you ever have trouble finding good snacks during the day? I’ll admit I do! Guess what? Recently, I discovered while watching my calories that my handfuls of chocolate chips each day were a very BAD idea! That is my guilty pleasure. I keep a package in my freezer, then throughout the day I grab a handful or two as a little pick me up or sweet snack.

About a month ago, I started on a major overhaul of my diet, I started to track everything I was eating to find out where these added calories were coming from. To my surprise a few things were causing it, but the one thing that shocked me…70 calories in 1 Tbsp of Chocolate Chips. Do you know how many tablespoons fit in my hand? Umm…way more than 1! Let’s just say I’m trying to downsize my chocolate chip fetish and replace it with better options.

My husband is also on this journey trying to overhaul his diet. The biggest issue for him as well is snacks. He is a truck driver and needs easy snacks for the road. It gets boring driving all day and he likes a good snack to keep him awake and focused. I decided to try out the Quaker® Simply Granola in a trail mix recently with a few additions to make it both a sweet and salty treat!

I decided to use the Quaker® Simply Granola in the Oats, Honey, and Raisin variety. Then, I added in about 1/4 Cup of Dried Cranberries, 1/4 Cup of Marshmallows, and 1/2 Cup of Pretzels. Once I added the extras in, I dashed a little bit of ground cinnamon on top then mixed it up.

This made for the perfect snack for my husband on the road. We typically bag it up for him in smaller serving sizes so that he can have a little all throughout the week.

Now, since the holidays are coming up, if you have friends like us who are desperately trying to avoid the sweets and candy overload for the holidays, this makes a great little food inspired gift too! I simply pour it into small mason jars, then tie a festive ribbon on it and viola! I love this idea for friends that may not eat cookies or sweets, or may just be trying to avoid them.

Now it’s time to make your own, head to Walmart to find more varieties of Quaker® cereals or the ingredients to make this recipe!

My little girl didn’t wait long to dig right in, clearly she didn’t mind that I was taking photos!
