This recipe is going to use two different types of puppy chow or muddy buddies, one using gluten-free brownie mix and one using powdered sugar.

What ingredients do you need for a Gluten-Free Reindeer Chow Mix?

  • Rice Chex Cereal or Corn Chex Cereal
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Peanut Butter
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Gluten-Free Brownie Mix
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Miniature Peanut Butter Cups
  • Red M&Ms
  • Gluten-Free Pretzels – Any shape or size!

Tips for Making Gluten-Free Reindeer Chow Recipe:

  • Use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, be sure to stir every few seconds.
  • Use a very large bowl for the cereal to pour and coat with chocolate without making a mess.
  • Use a bag stand to keep the Ziploc bag propped open when adding the chow mix to the bag.
  • Make sure the Ziploc bag is fully sealed and secure before you begin to shake it to coat the cereal.
  • Remember that this recipe will use two types of chow mix, one with gluten-free brownie mix and one with powdered sugar, the instructions for the chow mix will be completed twice to make each variety.
  • Be sure to let the chow mix cool completely before adding in the candies to avoid melting.
  • The prep time will be just about 20-30 minutes, so keep this in mind as you prepare your festive snack!

To Make the Puppy Chow Mix:

    Add cereal to a large bowl.

    Melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter in a medium-sized bowl that is microwave-safe. Place in microwave for 1 minute, stir, and continue heating for 10-20 seconds at a time until the chocolate is almost melted and smooth.

    Remove from the microwave and stir until smooth.

    Pour over cereal and toss well to coat.

    Pour mixture into a Ziploc Gallon Size Bag and add the brownie mix for the brownie puppy chow mix OR the powdered sugar for the traditional chow mix.

    Close the bag and shake it to coat it completely.

    Set aside and make the additional puppy chow mix.

Snack Mix Instructions:

    Once both the brownie mix puppy chow and traditional puppy chow are made, add those to a large bowl along with the pretzels.
