Celebrate your child’s birthday with a simple and fun Dirt Worm Cake. They will be impressed, plus it taste fabulous too!
I am probably a little late on posting this but about 3 weeks ago my son celebrated his 7th birthday. I find that so hard to believe.
When he was a baby I remember it feeling like the days were so long, right?
He had severe reflux and eating issues and it was just a very hard first year of life, but then things got better and now 7 years later I’m scratching my head with where the years went.
I actually started this blog when he turned 1, so that means I’m celebrating my 6th blogging anniversary too!
A month of celebrations for sure.
Tips for Making a Gluten-Free Worm Cake
This year, I did something a bit different than my normal for his birthday. I like to do parties with all the fun fixings and food of course but his birthday was right in the middle of two vacations for us, leaving us with no weekends for parties. I decided to plan his birthday with fun all day long instead with just him, my husband, daughter, and myself.
Then, we had his cousin come along and spend the day with us.
That evening we had the family over for cake and ice cream and a little mini-celebration. It was certainly much more low key than a normal party for us but honestly, it was refreshing and he didn’t really care, he thought it was great.

The next thing though that I had to figure out was the cake. He, of course, wanted a cake but normally I have a friend make the cake. She can make them gluten-free and is an amazing cake decorator.
I am definitely not a cake decorator; however, I can make a tasty cake. Since our birthday party was the middle of the week and a random time, I knew that I’d need to do the cake myself.
I decided to do a simple Dirt Worm Cake. This is so easy and your kids will love it. He thought it was the best thing ever and considering we only had one piece left, so did everyone else.
How do you make a Worm Cake?
I used a cake mix to make the cake, then I added a layer of cherries in the middle.
A lot of chocolate icing and crushed gluten-free chocolate cookies on top made for a tasty topping.
Once I was finished I buried gummy worms throughout the cake to make the Dirt Worm Cake.
The result was much better than I thought and the great thing is you don’t need any skill to make this…and trust me I have no decorating skill.
If you are looking for a cake for your kids this Dirt Worm Cake will be a hit!
