Veggie & Bacon Super Salad with Walmart Produce
Veggie & Bacon Super Salad will feed a crowd!

If you follow along with me on Instagram then you probably noticed we had a cookout over the weekend! What comes along with a cookout? A ton of food! I always have this fear that we are going to run out of food when we have guests over, so it never fails that I end up with a lot of extra food. That works out well because then we can give it away, send friends home with food, and have leftovers!
Generally when we have a cookout a few things come to mind, first of course we have the meat that my husband takes care of, then we have beans, and a variety of salads and veggies. This weekend, I headed to Walmart to pick up all the goodies that I needed for a nice, big salad! Although we grow a lot of our own produce, sadly our lettuce did not make it this year so Walmart has been my go to for lettuce and other produce. Why?
First, I live within a few blocks of Walmart so the location and convenience is just a given; however, my favorite reason for going to Walmart to buy produce is, price matching! Yes, friends…Price Matching! I absolutely love that I can take any of my sales flyers and head to the store and have them price match. That makes it one stop shopping. That’s a huge deal to me, I hate going to multiple stores! I avoid it as much as I possibly can.
I love to make salads using what I have on hand along with my produce. We like to add tomatoes, black olives, bacon, cheese, eggs, and sunflower seeds (shelled) to our salads. I love the crunch that each of those elements gives to a bed of lettuce. This time I also added shredded carrots as well.
As far as lettuce goes, I’m a green leafy lettuce girl all the way! If I make a grilled salad then I use romaine but for all other salads I love the green leafy lettuce. I feel like it’s definitely better than iceberg lettuce and also feel like it last much longer too. I can generally keep this in my fridge for a week or more and it does not brown. I actually use this lettuce for tacos and really any recipe that would call for lettuce.
I love color in salads they look beautiful and give a wonderful variation to the table amidst all the smoked meat!
I am easily able to price match all of my produce at Walmart then use up what I have on hand at home to build delicious salads for less than a few dollars! I also saved myself time because I did not go to multiple stores to get sale produce prices.
Another benefit that I have found is that Walmart is always adding more organic produce. So, they have the organic options for those that prefer organic too! It seems like each week I go shopping at Walmart the organic selection has expanded!
We finished off our salad with a few selections of Kraft Salad Dressing. In Oklahoma it’s pretty standard that you always have Ranch. I think most people here eat that with just about anything. I love the Zesty Italian and use that for a marinade too, so I always add that one when we serve salad as well.
Now, are you ready for a delicious salad? I am fairly certain I will be eating this with my lunch today!
Enjoy! Let us know, what’s on your favorite salad?
