  • Granulated Sugar

  • Salt
  • Canned Pumpkin Puree
  • Large Eggs
  • Evaporated Milk
  • Gluten-Free Frozen Pie Shells or Frozen Pie Shells

Why should you make a Smoked Pumpkin Pie?

This smoked pie can be made on a pellet grill or traditional grill, either one will work; however, the pellets or wood from a smoker will give it that nice smoked taste that you are looking for.

The wood smoke will subtly complement the spices that are in the pumpkin pie like the cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger that is found in pumpkin pie spice. It gives it a wonderfully enhanced flavor profile, making it the perfect holiday treat.

This is also very easy to make right alongside your Smoked Turkey or Smoked Ham.

How do you make Gluten-Free Smoked Pumpkin Pie?

The ingredients in this pie are easy to swap out if you need to make it gluten-free.

First, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour that is a 1:1 ratio with regular all-purpose flour. The best choices are King Arthur Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour, Better Batter, or Cup 4 Cup. Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Flour will work as well.

Along with the flour, use a gluten-free frozen pie shell. Our favorite brand to use is The Maine Pie Co Gluten-Free Frozen Pie Shells. We find these at our local Sprouts. They hold up well and have a great flavor.

These are the only swaps needed to make this gluten-free; however, always check all ingredients to be sure they are safe for your dietary needs.

What wood pellets should you use for this Pumpkin Pie Recipe?

The wood pellets that you choose will directly enhance the flavor of your pie. If you prefer a more mild flavor, choose apple, pecan, or maple. This will enhance the flavor of the pie without overwhelming it, which something like hickory may do.

Tips for Making Pellet Grill Smoked Pumpkin Pie:

Once you have the pie filling prepared, pour the prepared pumpkin pie filling into the prepared frozen pie shell. The frozen pie shell should have an aluminum pie pan under it and this will be placed directly onto the grates of the pellet grill.

The pie mixture with the pie crust will be assembled and placed onto the preheated pellet grill for 60 minutes at 400 degrees F.

As this cooks the center of the pie will begin to set. When you see that this is set as it approaches 60 minutes, the pie may be lifted some as it is hot. When it begins to cool, it will set back into the pie shell.

As soon as your pie is set, then carefully remove the pie and let it cool on a cooling rack for about 10-20 minutes. Once it’s cool enough to touch, cover the pie with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 3-4 hours. When you are ready to serve it, slice it and serve it with whipped cream.

How do you store the leftover pie?

Leftovers can be covered with plastic wrap or foil and stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.

This pie is the perfect addition to your Pellet Grill Thanksgiving Recipes!
