Martha Stewart Mother’s Day Tray & Vase

This past month, I was happy to receive a large haul of crafting supplies from Martha Stewart Crafts! Inside was like Christmas! It included a box of acrylic paints with a variety of spring colors, stencils, brushes, glass etching, and more!
Exciting, right? I was beyond thrilled! As soon as I received it, I had a pretty good idea of what I planned to do for Mother’s Day for the moms and grandma in our family! I purchased a tray that you see above and planned to paint it and use it to serve either brunch or breakfast in bed for mom!
The paint set alone made my day! These are so much better than your typical acrylic paints. The satin paint set dries with a much nicer sheen than typical acrylics. I’ll be choosing these for projects in the future. I already have a variety of craft projects lined up to use these including making some picture frames out of chicken wire! Sounds fun? It is!
(step 1) I started by using the Martha Stewart paint brush and the Jonquil Satin paint, using these I painted the tray from the wood finish to the yellow. I let it dry then used another coat of the paint to give it a good solid finish.
(step 2) By far, my favorite part of the Martha Stewart Crafts are the silkscreens! I used the silkscreens to make the different patterns on the tray. At this point, you just adhere the silkscreens that you would like onto your tray.
(step 3) Then, I used a dauber to paint on the surf color. I did this with the sea lavender as well. One thing I love about the silkscreens and the stencils with the Martha Stewart Crafts is that they adhere to the surface well without tape. I hate having to tape stencils down to get them to be positioned correctly, so having the stencil or silkscreen adhere is fabulous.
I also noticed with the silkscreen that it does not smear like stencils do sometimes. It came up perfectly when I removed it!
I continued the silkscreen technique in a variety of places on the tray and ended with this as the final product.
(step 4) I also did stencils that spelled ‘LOVE’ at the top. I did find that I needed to move my letters a bit closer together, but I was still happy with the result. I used a small paint brush to and alternated the surf and sea lavender on the letters.
Next up, glass etching! I was so excited to try this out! I decided to pick up some small mason jars and then initial them with letters of each moms name. I also used a few more stencils to do a flower motif around it. The etching is very simple, simple apply it then let it sit for about 15 minutes and remove under cold water.
The result? A perfectly monogrammed glass etched vase! This is perfect for flowers on the tray!
In just a few short hours of work, mainly just waiting on drying time, I had this cute serving tray complete with a monogrammed vase. Now wouldn’t this look beautiful with a blueberry muffin or sunrise breakfast casserole on it? I would go out on a limb here and say that there is no mom that would turn down breakfast in bed served on a beautiful tray with flowers!
