What flour should you use for gluten-free desserts?

The desserts I’m sharing will all use gluten-free all-purpose flour. This flour needs to be a 1:1 swap, which means you can use the same amount of regular all-purpose flour as you would gluten-free all-purpose flour. This flour will already include Xanthan Gum, which will give the desserts the same taste and texture as a gluten-filled dessert.

We use King Arthur Flour, Cup 4 Cup, Better Batter, Bob’s Red Mill, or Jules Gluten-Free. These flours will work perfectly for these dessert recipes, but always be sure you are using a high-quality gluten-free all-purpose flour. This is the most important ingredient in making gluten-free desserts. I like simple, easy recipes, which is why these recipes do not use fancy ingredients; they are all easy to find at your local grocery store.

Quick Tips for Gluten-Free Baking:

Before we dive into the sweet treats, let’s talk about what makes gluten-free baking different—and how to make it easy and enjoyable.

  • High Quality Gluten Free Baking Flour Blend – Look for a 1:1 baking blend that includes xanthan gum or guar gum. These ingredients help mimic the texture and elasticity of traditional wheat flour. Use the brands listed above, the gluten free flour is the most important part.
  • Measure Carefully – Gluten-free flours can behave differently, so level your dry ingredients.
  • Let the Batter Rest – When instructed give the batter 20–30 minutes to rest before baking helps hydrate the flour and improve texture.
  • Do Not Overmix – Once everything is combined, mix just until incorporated to keep your baked goods tender. Use a handheld mixer or low speed electric mixer.

These tips will help you get that perfect balance of texture and flavor. This way, no one misses out on those Desserts, plus I bet your guests will never even realize they are gluten-free, they will taste the same!
