Adventures with the Boy Scouts of America

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by BSA; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This past week my family and I were excited to attend the open house for Boy Scouts of America. We used to live near where the open house was located and always wondered what that property was used for as we saw kids camping and doing activities. We later learned that it was actually the Boy Scouts land.

As we headed there we were surprised to find just how gorgeous this little spot of land is and all the camping facilities on it, complete with a wonderful creek for canoeing.

For the open house several troops came out with activities for others to do such as BB Guns, Archery, Canoes, Climbing, and several games. We walked around and tried out so many, our son did not want to leave! His favorite was the BB Guns, but he also wanted to try the Zip Line too. The Zip Line seemed to be the hit of the event with a line that stretched nearly all the way across the lot.

We even were able to stop by and see our good friend, who is a den leader, and was out there showing kids how to do stomp rockets.

My main reason for going was so my husband could see just how much Boy Scouts of America has to offer. They are the largest value-based youth development program in the nation. They help build character and develop many skills in boys of all ages. My husband and I were joking back and forth and both said that if we were lost in the middle of nowhere, we would want a boy scout there to help us. I mean really though, they are equip to help as they move through the scouting programs. They are learning so many tools that can help them in really any situation.

The real mission of Boy Scouts is to help young people make both moral and ethical decision that will better themselves and their community. Isn’t that what you want your kids to learn? I know that’s what I want my kids to learn!

We enjoyed a wonderful day there and are thankful that they opened the house to the public so we could all get a little glimpse into what boy scouts is all about. On top of that, it warmed my heart seeing my husband helping my son learn new skills too!

Are your kids in scouts? What is one thing you absolutely LOVE about scouts?
